Hennie was born in Oslo Norway to a Norwegian mother and a Swedish father. He began his acting career in the early 2000s appearing in a number of Norwegian television series and films. His breakthrough role came in the 2008 war film Max Manus for which he received critical acclaim. Hennie has since appeared in numerous international films including the Hollywood blockbuster The Martian (2015). In addition to his acting career, Hennie is also a successful screenwriter and director; his debut film Uno (2013) won several awards at international film festivals.
