He was elected to this office after serving as the 49th governor of California from 2007 to 2011.Douglas Craig Emhoff is a partner at the law firm of Venable LLP, where he specializes in white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations and complex civil litigation. Mr. Emhoff traveled to dozens of states and two countries. He is also a member of the firm's Litigation and White Collar Defense practice groups.As the first Jewish spouse of an American president or vice president, Mr. Emhoff has been honored to share his Jewish heritage and culture—from celebrating Passover in the White House to hanging a Mezuzah on the front door of the Vice President’s Residence. Mr. Emhoff has made it a top priority to encourage people to protect themselves and their communities by getting vaccinated against COVID-19.Emhoff began his career as an associate attorney at Venable LLP’s Washington DC office in 2004.
